Damage Mechanism Basics

The damage mechanisms that follow use the same categorization as API RP 571 (Second Edition). The categories are:

  • Mechanical or Metallurgical Failure Mechanisms
  • Uniform or Localized Loss of Thickness
  • High Temperature Corrosion
  • Environment-Assisted Cracking
  • Other Mechanisms
