Dr. Michael Cayard is currently the Corporate Corrosion and Materials Leader supporting Flint Hills Resources’ refining, chemical processing, and renewable sites. He received a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Engineering Mechanics and Materials from Texas A&M University. Mike joined Flint Hills Resources in 2004, working for their Pine Bend, MN refinery. In August 2014, he relocated to their Corpus Christi, TX refining complex. He is active in the development of NACE & API standards, and a past chairman of NACE Specific Technology Group (STG 34) on Petroleum Refining and Gas Processing. He has authored/co-authored over 100 technical publications.

Documented cases of leaks and failures of pressure containing equipment have been attributed to these forms of corrosive damage.
