Overview
Radiographic testing is commonly used as a volumetric nondestructive examination (NDE) technique in the hydrocarbon and petrochemical industries to view or inspect equipment, such as pressure vessels, valves, and welded joints. This technique uses short wavelength radiation such as x- ray or gamma rays that pass through an object. As the rays pass through, radiation is differentially absorbed due to differences in thickness, density, or presence of internal flaws in the component. These differences are then viewed as contrasting features on an image.
