Webinar Description
On June 3, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. (CST) Don Mears from Analytical Training Consultants (ATC) will discuss how to “trust but verify” Material Test Reports (MTRs) by checking the material chemistry with handheld X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES), or Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) analyzers. This verification is to compare the MTRs for all piping, valves & fittings/assets, and all tank components, so the “heat number” from the Mill’s MTR is qualified at the start of the project in all sectors of the oil & gas industry. This action can also provide complete records of material chemistry verification for your construction quality program. This requires operations and construction to verify they are using the correct materials to mitigate corporate risk.
By following API codes and standards, and applying the API-U approved API 578 PMI training course to your requirements, it will improve and ensure the quality and performance of the XRF, OES, or LIBS technician. This action is considered Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practice (RAGAGEP). This also offers a cost/loss-benefit ratio by increasing your piping and its assets safety and reducing the chance of incorrect material entering the construction process or finished product. With this knowledge, operators can provide proof to regulators that the piping/tank/valve & assets' MTR chemistry is being verified as required by project quality programs and owner specifications.
About API's 2021 Inspection Webinar Series
Join API along with subject matter experts for a weekly webinar series presented to the inspection community. Each week's presentation will touch on inspection topics relevant to downstream operations and integrity management. These webinars will provide an opportunity to learn about new and existing industry codes and standards, to hear about emerging trends from experts in the field, and to discuss new and existing issues in inspection and AIM technology. There are currently six webinars scheduled through the end of the year with the potential for more to be added at any point. Those interested in attending can register for each individual webinar for US $50 per session, or register for the entire Inspection Professional Series for US $300.
