Topics covered will include an introduction to risk and uncertainty, and how they relate to Risk-Based Inspection planning; an overview of API RP 580; an overview of API RP 581; Probability of Failure; Consequence of Failure; and risk calculations and inspection planning.

This course includes:

  • 1.25 CPDs/PDHs (certificate provided upon completion)
  • 1.25 hours of on-demand video, including comprehension checks and an exam

  • Describe how risk depends on the Probability of Failure (POF) and Consequence of Failure (COF), and how RBI utilizes risk in inspection planning.
  • State the purpose of API RP 580 and API RP 581, explain the main differences/similarities between those two documents, and describe how each applies to a risk assessment.
  • List the factors affecting Probability of Failure and Consequence of Failure, and how they relate to the API 581 methodology.
  • Discuss the critical role of damage mechanisms in RBI assessments and how active damage mechanisms impact the overall risk of equipment.
  • Plan your next inspection based on a given risk value.
