Camroon's Sonara Refinery to Shut Down for a Year Following Fire

Reuters, June 11, 2019

Cameroon’s 42,000-barrel-per-day Sonara oil refinery will shut down for a year following a fire that occurred earlier this month, a spokesman for the ministry of commerce announced on Tuesday.

Operations at the refinery were stalled this month after the explosion of a storage tank engulfed four of the thirteen production units.

Sonara produces 20 percent of Cameroon’s gasoline demand, the rest of which is imported, said ministry spokesman Eric Epoune.
