RBI – Real-Time Turnaround Management

Introduction

Turnarounds operate at a different pace than routine work. Most plant-based inspection departments have historically struggled with Turnaround document control, such as integrating contractor reports into their routine data management system. Add in the requirements of Risk Based Inspection (RBI) programs, Turnaround Management systems, and the need to process information quickly for repairs, closure, and start-up readiness, and managing Turnarounds can become daunting.

The Challenge

We faced this kind of challenging situation with our own RBI implementation. Our program had been put in place, and we had planned and were ready for our first major Turnaround. We needed to ensure the requirements and recommendations of the inspection work plan were satisfied before we restarted the plant, and that the required resources were available to update the RBI software post-turnaround.
