API Refractory Personnel Certification Information

API welcomes professionals across the entire petrochemical industry to obtain the API 936 Refractory Personnel certification as a validation of their profound knowledge of installation, testing, and repair of refractory linings.

A brief note on API 936 certification

The API 936 certification program has been developed for anyone and everyone who deals with refractory installation and quality control. In other words, API 936 refractory personnel are not necessarily refractory inspectors. Per Annex C of API 936:

This program targets all refractory personnel. […] No experience verification is conducted at the time of the application.

To become qualified as a refractory inspector, there are some additional requirements that are also explained in Annex C:

Individuals wishing to be qualified as refractory inspectors must achieve and demonstrate the minimum competency obtained in inspection activities, in addition to being certified to the 936 Refractory Personnel Program by API.
