Chemical Plant's 10-Year Journey with Pyrogel® Aerogel Insulation

HU-CHEMS Fine Chemical Corporation is based in Yeosu, Korea — a severe marine environment that is a breeding ground for corrosion under insulation (CUI).

Although the facility was newly constructed in 2008, the HU-CHEMS team found that processes were not performing as expected. After inspecting their original fibrous insulation, the team found that it was wet and severely degraded. This explained their performance issues and heat loss. Not to mention they also discovered widespread CUI.

Instead of replacing the fibrous insulation, HU-CHEMS invested in a long-term solution: Pyrogel®. Pyrogel was installed on the 2008 facility and later on a 2012 MNB expansion. A decade later and the HU-CHEMS team is still enjoying the benefits from the original install.
