An explosion occurred shortly after 8:15 a.m. this morning at the Sound Resource Solutions chemical plant near Shepherd, Texas in San Jacinto County. One employee suffered minor burns and is being treated at a Houston hospital. The San Jacinto County Office of Emergency Management has issued a one-mile shelter-in-place for the area of FM 1127 and a large plume of smoke can be seen heading northeast away from Houston.
Sound Resource Solutions President, Geoff Harfield, said the chemicals that were burning were common chemicals that can be found under a kitchen sink and nothing toxic.
