Overnight Pipeline Explosion Rocks Refugio, TX; No Injuries Reported

A pipeline exploded last night in Refugio, TX, about 40 miles northeast of Corpus Christi, lighting up the night sky and sending shockwaves that could be felt for miles. The line is part of Kinder Morgan's Tejas Pipeline system, a 3,400 mile intrastate pipeline system located primarily along the Texas Gulf Coast.

Melissa Ruiz, a Kinder Morgan spokeswoman, said company personnel discovered the natural gas release and fire on its Tejas pipeline system around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. The company shut down the impacted pipeline segment, dispatched personnel to the site, and regulatory agencies have been notified. The fire has been extinguished, and there are no injuries, Ruiz said.
