The American Welding Society (AWS) Offers "Portable" NDE Central Certification

AWS, in conjunction with the Edison Welding Institute and The Welding institute, are offering a program for the certification of NDE operators. The certification follows the operator. Areas for certification are PT (penetrant testing), MT (magnetic particle testing), UT (ultrasonic testing), and RI (radiographic interpretation).

AWS is modifying a program developed by the Certification Scheme for Welding Inspection Personnel (CSWIP). In the existing American Society for Nondestructive Testing's Recommended Practice, SNT-TC-1A, Personnel Qualification, and Certification in Nondestructive Testing scheme, the company employing NDE technicians is responsible for developing and administering a written practice fulfilling the RP's intent. The control of personnel certification within a given company is controlled by that written practice and the responsible Level III administrator.
