Roger Parakin joined Becht Engineering in 2019 as the IEAC Division Manager. He has more than 35 years industry/facility experience in instrumentation, electrical system design, project management, construction management, DCS/PLC configuration and systems administration. This experience has included plant operations and capital projects in both the petrochemical and oil sands industries.
Before joining Becht Engineering, he was a Senior Instrumentation and Control Engineer for ConocoPhillips Canada, and Nova Chemicals Corporation and held various Senior Process Automation and Control Systems positions at DOW Chemical Canada Inc. and Union Carbide Canada.
As a Senior Instrumentation Engineer and Senior Instrumentation Technical Authority he has developed, modified, reviewed, and approved many Instrumentation and Control system standards, procedures, and specifications in Petrochemical and Oil Sands facilities.
He has been the Instrumentation and Controls Systems technical lead for many projects including complete Pneumatic Plant system conversions to Electronic/DCS systems, Gas Pipeline and Glycol Plant Control building relocations, Glycol Catalyst Upgrade Projects , Poly-Ethylene Expansions and Debottlenecking Projects, Smart transmitter/positioner Upgrade Projects, boiler/cooling water control systems, Compressors, Incinerators, Gas Plant Dehydrators and other processes, Oil Sands Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage Projects, Gas lift to submersible pump upgrades.
As an Senior Automation Engineer/Specialist he has been a site DCS lead administrator for Honeywell DCS and Triconex systems for Union Carbide and DOW Glycol and Polyethylene Facilities and Nova Chemical Ethylene, and Poly-Ethylene Facilities. In the latter roles his responsibilities included many Honeywell DCS software and hardware upgrade projects, advanced process control, safety system configurations, and systems administration.
Mr. Parakin’s career also has included many years of Instrumentation Reliability Engineering.
Roger is registered with The Association of Professional Engineering and Geoscientists of Alberta, Canada as an Instrumentation and Control Systems Engineer, PL Eng. Mr. Parakin is based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
