Senior Structural Engineer

A candidate with a structural engineering background and experience in the refinery or petrochemical industries and with leadership skills as a consultant is required to assist Becht Engineering in a hands-on long-term project and technical leadership role within the engineering group.

This senior level position is specifically for a Civil/Structural Engineer with at least 7 to 10 years’ experience and will require working on a client site in a long-term position. The individual will gain exposure to a range of projects within the refining and petrochemical industry. 

About The Position

The position will be located in a New Jersey petroleum refinery and will focus on both day-to-day issues and capital projects. The successful candidate will have experience with new civil/structural designs and modifications to equipment, tank and pipe rack foundations, concrete structures, piling, pile caps, steel structures, miscellaneous steel, plant water drainage, etc. Significant experience generating, checking and modifying civil/structural specifications, drawings, calculations, bid documents, evaluating technical bids, providing guidance to contractors and observing field installation of new designs and modifications is required. Additional civil/structural roles and responsibilities may be added at any time by Becht’s client.

Required personal skills include attention to detail, exceptional listening ability, clear and diplomatic communications, demonstrated ability to articulate technical objectives and presenting technical positions. An ideal candidate would be a friendly person who exercises good judgement, understands his/her role in the client’s organization as a contractor and is comfortable in an operating plant environment.

Experience/Characteristics Required:

  • High interest in a career in the refining and petrochemicals industries
  • Must excel in problem solving
  • Strong understanding of Civil/Structural Engineering principles
  • Inquisitive with a high degree of initiative
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Authorization to work in the US on a long term basis and a valid TWIC card are required.

All functions will be performed under the direction of the Engineering Division Manager and training and oversight will be provided. Each aspect of this position requires interfacing with internal employees, managers, the company president, vendors and clients. Routine administrative tasks can be delegated to an administrative assistant
