ASME PCC-2, Repair of Pressure Equipment and Piping, is a standard developed by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and provides methods for repairing equipment and piping within the scope of ASME Pressure Technology Codes and Standards after it has been placed into service. These repair methods include relevant design, fabrication, examination, and testing practices and may be temporary or permanent, depending on the circumstances. The methods provided in this standard address the repair of components when repair is deemed necessary based on appropriate inspection and flaw assessment. These inspection and flaw evaluation methods are not covered in this document, but are covered in other post-construction codes and standards.

A safety-focused mindset and awareness of the dangers associated with the process, environment, and associated tasks through planning and execution is essential for the safe completion of a single stud replacement campaign.
The author estimates that, if the composite repair approach is implemented properly in place of welding repairs, approximately 70-80% of hot work at operating sites could be eliminated.
Composite repair systems can be a great option for owner/ operators to extend the life of their assets without disrupting operations.
