CSB Safety Video: Animation of 2015 Explosion at ExxonMobil Refinery in Torrance, CA

The U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB) has released an animation depicting the February 18, 2015 explosion at the ExxonMobil (now PBF Energy) refinery in Torrance, CA. The explosion in the facility's 100,000 bpd fluid catalytic cracker injured four contractors, damaged nearby equipment, and dusted the surrounding neighborhoods with a coat of ash. The seven minute CSB video describes the events that led up to the accident and what equipment and processes were involved.

In conjunction with the video, the CSB also released its Final Report into the incident siting multiple gaps in the refinery’s process safety management system.
