API RP 538 - Industrial Fired Boilers for General Refinery and Petrochemical Service

API RP 538, Industrial Fired Boilers for General Refinery and Petrochemical Service, is a recommended practice developed and published by the American Petroleum Institute (API) that gives recommendations for design, operation, and maintenance considerations for industrial fired boilers used in refineries and chemical plants. The current and 1st Edition of this RP was published in September of 2015.

API RP 538 does not apply to fire tube boilers, gas turbine exhaust boilers, or fluidized bed boilers; nor does it cover boiler mechanical construction. This RP is intended to cover waterside control, combustion control, burner management systems (BMSs), feedwater preparation, steam purity, emissions, etc.
