Seniors are the fastest growing population in Montgomery County, many of whom are food insecure and isolated. The reality is, as we age, we enter a continuum of physical decline. Social Security and Medicare, although important, do not provide services to prepare meals or transportation for seniors. Local family members are often overwhelmed, while those at a distance are unable to provide daily physical support. This leaves many of our homebound elderly hungry and malnourished.
Since 1973, Meals on Wheels Montgomery County (MOWMC) has been working with the community to improve the lives of homebound seniors. MOWMC currently supports roughly 800 elderly residents by cooking and delivering 4,000 - 5,000 meals per week.
Recently, a group from Inspectioneering had the privilege of volunteering with MOWMC to prepare dozens of meal bags for at-risk seniors in the community.
"Last year we decided, as an organization, to commit more time to giving back to those in need," said Nick Schmoyer, Managing Partner at Inspectioneering. "We believe in the mission of Meals on Wheels Montgomery County, and the entire team was beyond excited to support their efforts to provide nutritious meals to seniors in our local community."
