Japan's Mitsubishi Chemical plans to invest $915 million USD into building a new plant in Louisiana. The investment will boost production of methyl methacrylate, or MMA, a raw material is used to manufacture acrylic plastics used in a wide range of products, including auto parts and house paint. When completed, the plant will be the largest of its kind with an annual production capacity of 350,000 tons, about 10% of global demand for the compound. The company expects the facility to begin operations in 2025.
