Flint Hills Resources recently announced that as part of its continuous efforts to transform and improve operations, the company is partnering with Molex to launch a first-of-its-kind digital approach to leak detection at industrial facilities. This digital monitoring system has the potential to reduce costs, minimize real-time emissions, and enhance safety at refining and chemical facilities by replacing traditional walkaround monitoring with digital, sensor-based monitoring.
The current manual method of monitoring is inefficient, labor-intensive, and presents safety challenges because technicians are often required to climb elevated towers and maneuver through complex processing units occupied by other workers while exposed to the elements. This new system offers a combination of next generation sensors with an optimally placed sensor network and an intelligent software to pinpoint potential leaks around the clock. Real-time alerts ensure quick review by the monitoring team and location details guide the team to potential leaks for corrective action.
This technology is currently being piloted at FHR refineries in Corpus Christi, putting into practice a philosophy of mutual benefit while creating superior value for FHR, its customers, and society.
