The American Petroleum Institute has published an updated 2nd Edition of Recommended Practice 1169 - Pipeline Construction Inspection. This recommended practice focuses on the basic requirements needed to inspect new onshore pipelines in a safe and reliable manner. It provides details related to the role of the operator’s pipeline construction inspector (“Inspector”), in terms of monitoring and inspection requirements throughout the lifecycle of the pipeline construction process. This document is written to address general inspection duties, including basic knowledge of, and where to find, detailed information related to each facet of pipeline construction inspection activities. The 2nd Edition of RP 1169 outlines issues pipeline inspectors should review during construction, with a new emphasis on creating effective working relationships between operators, inspectors, and contractors.
