Formosa Shuts Styrene Monomer Plant after Blast Injures 4 Workers

Taiwan's Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corp. has shut its 250,000 mt/year No. 1 styrene monomer plant at Mailiao following an explosion that injured four employees Monday morning, according to a company source. "The explosion was due to operational issues," the source said, and he also confirmed information in local reports that said it was caused by an abrupt increase in pipeline pressure. The incident is under further investigation.
