Torrance Refinery Experiences Fire on 2 Year Anniversary of Blast

CBS Los Angelas, February 20, 2017

The Torrance Refinery, formerly owned by ExxonMobil and now owned by PBF Energy, experienced an explosion and fire on Saturday. No injuries were reported in the accident and the cause is still under investigation. Fire crews were reportedly able to extinguish the blaze in less than an hour, however this is yet another in a string of process safety incidents to occur at the 155,000 bpd facility. Saturday's fire comes exactly 2 years after a major blast at the Torrance Refinery injured four contractors, damaged nearby equipment, and dusted the surrounding neighborhoods with a coat of ash.
