5 Workers Sent to Hospital following Acid Release at HollyFrontier's NM Refinery

Five workers were reportedly injured at HollyFrontier's 100,000 bpd Navajo Refinery on Wednesday when hydrofluoric acid was inadvertently released from a pipe near the alkylation unit. The workers were treated at a local hospital for chemical inhalation and minor acid burns and released at 4:30 p.m. the same day, said refinery manager Bob O'Brien. The cause of the incident is under investigation. "We have five stated values at HollyFrontier. The first one is that we put health and safety first," O'Brien said. "We need to understand what exactly happened to prevent any of these (accidents) happening in the future.
