CP Chem Experiences Process Upset at Texas Olefins Complex

According to a recent filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Chevron Phillips Chemical experienced a process upset this weekend at its 667,000 mt/year Ethylene Unit No. 24 at its Sweeny olefins complex in Old Ocean, Texas. The filing stated that during the startup of the ethane/propane (E/P) treater excess pressure in the pump line caused a relief valve to open, resulting in excess flaring through Monday.
