Sinopec to Shut Jiujiang Refinery for 50 days of Maintenance Beginning Feb. 14

Reuters, February 8, 2017

China Petroleum and Chemical Corp, or Sinopec, plans to close its oil refinery at Jiujiang in the southern province of Jiangxi for maintenance for 50 days from Feb. 14, two sources familiar with the matter said on Wednesday. A company spokesman for Sinopec confirmed the shutdown of the plant that can process 5 million tonnes per year, or about 100,000 barrels per day (bpd), of crude oil. More than 900,000 bpd of refining capacity, equivalent to 6 percent of China's total could be shut at various points during the first two quarters of 2017, BMI research said in a report. Petrochina's Dalian refinery, China's second-biggest plant that can process about 410,000 bpd, will shut for 45 to 60 days for planned maintenance, an industry source with direct knowledge of the matter said in November.
