Two Safety Incidents Prompt Evacuations in Mont Belvieu Over the Weekend, June 28, 2016

Two separate safety incidents prompted evacuations this weekend in Mont Belvieu, located about 30 miles East of Houston. The first was a chemical leak at a pipeline storage facility owned by LyondellBasell, which the company said experienced a pressure build-up in an onsite wellhead. The second incident involved a small fire at the adjacent Lone Star NGL plant. No injuries were reported in either incident, but nearby residents were evacuated and Highway 146 was closed as precautionary measures. The cause of the leak and neighboring fire are currently under investigation.
