BASF acquires Albemarle's specialty chemical business for $3.2 billion

BASF SE, the world's largest chemical producer, has reached an agreement to acquire Albemarle's surface treatment business Chemetall for $3.2 billion. Frankfurt-based Chemetall is a global supplier of specialty chemicals used in surface treatment of metals and plastics. They operate 21 production facilities and employ 2,500 people worldwide.
