BASF Postpones Building Freeport, TX Chemical Plant

BASF, one of the world's largest chemical companies, has decided to postpone building its planned propylene plant in Freeport, TX, citing "volatile" commodity prices. Falling oil prices over the last two years have slashed profits for chemical producers, however many companies are pressing on with planned projects along the Gulf Coast. Dow Chemical Inc. recently brought online a similar plant and Enterprise Product Partners LP and Formosa Plastics Corp have announced plans to open similar plants during the next two years.
