Inspectioneering (IJ) recently had the opportunity to chat with Tye Beard, Manager of Training and eLearning Services at ASTM International (ASTM). Mrs. Beard oversees the staff and training initiatives for the live, blended, and eLearning programs, while also serving as the Compliance Officer for the department, overseeing policies and procedures required to maintain their accreditations.
For readers less familiar with ASTM, it is a standards organization that develops and publishes consensus standards for the process industries. To facilitate better understanding, implementation, and performance of industry codes, standards, and practices, ASTM provides training and certifications to organizations and individuals around the world. This brings us to our interview with the person responsible for shaping the future of ASTM’s training programs and initiatives.
IJ: Thanks for giving us your time, Tye. We’ll jump in to the questions. Internally, how much emphasis is ASTM putting in the development of its training offerings?
TB: ASTM has an aggressive growth strategy. With the support of senior management, we have invested in the right people and technology to further enhance the program, allowing us to increase our training portfolio to over 300 active courses in less than six years. By having robust technology and agile processes in place, the team can adapt quickly to company objectives and industry demand.
