Creep Workshop

Stress Engineering Services, October 7, 2021

Creep is one of the most common damage mechanisms of concern in the refining/petrochemical industry at elevated temperatures. This one-day course will provide a comprehensive introduction to creep, expanding on the two-part webinar series by introducing various aspects of creep to practicing engineers that will allow them to make more informed decisions regarding components operating in the creep regime. Key concepts and ideas will be demonstrated using example problems from the refining/petrochemical industry. Prior experience with creep-related problems is not necessary but a basic knowledge of ASME Codes and API 579-1 Fitness-for-Service Standard is preferred to gain the most out of the course.

Course Topics

  • Metallurgical Aspects of Creep
  • High Temperature Alloys
  • Modeling of Creep Behavior
  • ASME Allowable Stress Criteria
  • Structural Aspects of Creep
  • Damage and Failure Criteria
  • Remaining Life Assessment of Service-Exposed Components
  • Creep Testing of Service-Exposed Components
  • Microstructure and Creep Damage Correlations
