In this post, I want to talk a little bit about fatherhood and what that means to me. This is a big departure from our normal content, but yesterday was Father’s Day here in the U.S. and 75 other countries around the world, so I appreciate you indulging me. I promise, next week we’ll be back to technical content!
I have worked in the Chemical, Petrochemical, and Oil & Gas industries from more than 30 years now. One thing I have learned is that life (like risk) is dynamic. These are not always easy jobs to hold with a family at home. Constant travel allowed me to “bring home the bacon,” but that meant not being there for many mealtimes. It was a choice we made and I am proud that I could provide for my family doing the work I love.
One thing that makes me even prouder is that I now get to work with my son, Tyler. Many of you haven’t met my son personally, but you see his name throughout the site and on the LinkedIn Group. My son, Tyler Alvarado, is the Director at Inspectioneering. He oversees all aspects of the business side of Inspectioneering. During his four years as Director, he’s added staff, significantly increased the functionality of the Inspectioneering website, created our LinkedIn Group for discussion, and has helped keep AIM issues at the forefront in a lot of new and exciting ways.
As a father, I’m proud to watch my son from such a close vantage point. It makes me proud, on a personal level, that all of you are getting to know Tyler. It also gives me hope for the next generation of professionals who will be taking the reins of our industry in the coming years. Thanks to the efforts of Tyler and the Inspectioneering Team, the new group of up and coming professionals will get the training they need to be successful.
Thank you, again, for indulging me. Happy Father’s Day to all you hardworking dads out there!
Next week, my good friend and co-editor John Reynolds will be guest blogging. He’ll be covering the effect of corrosion control in pressure equipment integrity. I’m sure you’ll find it interesting. As always, I suggest you sign up for our email newsletter or join the discussion on our LinkedIn Group.
